Statewide Principal Supervisor Network

Developing the leaders who develop principals

A new professional learning opportunity from WASA and AWSP.

Strong principals are essential to strong schools. And behind every effective principal is a district leader who plays a critical role in coaching, supporting, challenging, and developing that principal.

For the 2026–27 school year, WASA and AWSP are launching the inaugural Statewide Principal Supervisor Network—a professional learning experience designed specifically for district leaders who supervise and support principals.

Through four interactive virtual sessions and a peer site visit, participants will connect with principal supervisors from across Washington to strengthen their practice, develop practical coaching strategies, and build more intentional systems for principal support.

From supervising principals to developing leaders

Principal supervisors face a constant stream of operational demands. This network creates dedicated time and space to step beyond the issues of the day and focus intentionally on one of the most important responsibilities of district leadership: building the capacity of principals to lead successful schools.

The network will draw upon the School Leader Paradigm and the WASA Portrait of a Leader, helping participants translate leadership frameworks into practical approaches they can use with principals immediately.

Participants will:

Connect and collaborate with principal supervisors from across Washington.
Strengthen their coaching practice and develop strategies they can immediately apply with principals.
Create a partnership plan with a principal focused on a specific school improvement priority.
Participate in a peer site visit with another district to learn from principal-support practices in action.
Gather evidence of impact to better understand how principal supervision influences principal practice, teaching, and student outcomes.
Help shape a statewide network for principal supervisors that can grow and improve in future years.

Learning together—and learning from one another

In addition to the four virtual sessions, participants will identify another principal supervisor in the network for a “home and away” site visit during the school year.

The goal is simple: get outside your own system, see how another district approaches principal support and development, and bring new ideas back to your own practice.

2026–27 Schedule

All network sessions will be held virtually from 9 – 11 a.m.

September 2, 2026 — Network Kickoff
November 4, 2026 — Session 2
January 13, 2027 — Session 3
April 14, 2027 — Session 4

Participants will also complete their peer site visit at a mutually agreed-upon time during the school year.

Facilitation

The network will be facilitated by representatives from WASA and AWSP, including Bill Oman, Executive Director of Schools and Learning for Vancouver Public Schools, who brings more than 12 years of experience working with and supporting principals in Southwest Washington.

Cost and Support

Participation is free.

This professional learning opportunity is supported through Washington's Next Level Leaders initiative and reflects WASA and AWSP's continued commitment to strengthening leadership development across the state.

In addition, the first 20 participating districts will receive a $500 grant to support work directly connected to their school improvement priority. Representatives from these districts will also have the opportunity to help advise WASA and AWSP on the future development of the network.

Who Should Participate?

This network is designed for district-level leaders who directly supervise, coach, evaluate, or support principals and want to become more intentional and effective in developing principal leadership.

Whether you supervise a few principals or many, the network provides an opportunity to strengthen your own practice while learning alongside colleagues who understand the unique opportunities and challenges of principal supervision.
