SCHOOL ADMINISTRATORS STATEWIDE ELECT DR. JOHN ERICKSON,
 VANCOUVER PUBLIC SCHOOLS, TO ASSOCIATION PRESIDENCY IN 2007
 

OLYMPIA, Washington -- The Washington Association of School Administrators (WASA) is pleased to announce that members have elected Dr. John Erickson, superintendent of Vancouver Public Schools, as president-elect in 2006–07. Dr. Erickson will assume the presidency in July 2007, following the term of the current president, Dr. Steve Chestnut, Moses Lake School District.

“John Erickson has been an outstanding education leader for many years, both at the local and national level,” commented WASA Executive Director Paul Rosier. “He is recognized as a true leader in education, and our members will benefit from his strong leadership as WASA President.”

As a member of WASA for several years, Dr. Erickson has actively participated as a board member, superintendent component chair and conference presenter as well as in other workgroup capacities. Upon learning of his selection, Dr. Erickson stated,

"I am excited about the possibility of contributing to WASA. The respect shown by my peers is very heart warming.”

As president, Dr. Erickson’s goals will be to:

  • Provide superb member service.
  • Support Ample School Funding Project efforts.
  • Strengthen relationships with other education groups and partners.
  • Offer leadership and support for WASA initiatives regarding teaching and learning.

At the district level, Dr. Erickson most recently received the “Outstanding Educator Award” from the Vancouver Parent-Teacher Association (2005). He currently serves on the State Superintendent’s Advisory Committee and as chair of ESD 112’s regional superintendents group.

Dr. Erickson has been with Vancouver Public Schools since 1994 and in the role of superintendent since 2002. Prior to his roles in Vancouver, he served as Oregon Superintendent of Public Instruction, superintendent in Oregon’s Lincoln County and Stayton school districts and in other teaching and administrative roles in Salem and Coquille, Oregon. His educational training includes a Ph.D. from Oregon State University and master’s and bachelor’s degrees from Willamette University.
