WASHINGTON SCHOOL ADMINISTRATORS ELECT
EVERETT PUBLIC SCHOOLS SUPERINTENDENT
DR. CAROL WHITEHEAD TO LEAD ASSOCIATION IN 2004-05

OLYMPIA, Washington -- Washington state school administrators have elected Dr. Carol Whitehead, superintendent of Everett Public Schools, as president-elect for the Washington Association of School Administrators (WASA). Dr. Whitehead will assume the presidency in July 2005, following the term of current president Dr. Paul Rosier, Kennewick SD.

Dr. Whitehead was honored and pleased to learn of her selection. “WASA has been the organization that has supported me throughout my career,” commented Dr. Whitehead. “I look forward to the opportunity to give back to the membership in the role of president.” As president, her goals include:

  • Providing assistance to public school administrators in Washington as they strive to help all students successfully meet Washington state’s high standards.

  • Working with legislators to ensure each Washington student has an equitable opportunity to a quality education.

  • Ensuring the completion of a thorough, accurate study of state funding for public education.

  • Continuing to support all public school administrators through quality professional development events offered by WASA.

Dr. Carol Whitehead’s previous service to WASA includes three terms as a WASA region president and as a presenter at many WASA seminars and workshops. Selected as the 2004 Washington State Superintendent of the Year, she also has been honored with a WASA Award of Merit, an Excellence in Educational Leadership Award (from the University Council for Education Administration) and a YWCA Woman of Achievement Award, among others. Dr. Whitehead is active in her community and presently serves on boards for Snohomish County’s YMCA and Children’s Museum and for the Everett Rotary.

Beginning her fourth year as superintendent for Everett’s Public Schools, Dr. Carol Whitehead formerly served in the Bremerton, Tacoma and Federal Way school districts. She earned an Ed.D. from Indiana University, an M.A. from the University of West Florida and a B.A. from Troy State University in Alabama.

WASA’s membership is composed of nearly 1,100 superintendents, instructional administrators, business and personnel administrators, special education administrators, and principals from across the state. WASA is committed to leadership for public schools and continues to focus on ensuring that every child reaches Washington high standards through shared leadership.
