STATE SCHOOL ADMINISTRATORS WILL GATHER JUNE 29-JULY 1 FOR
THE 23RD ANNUAL SUMMER CONFERENCE IN SPOKANE

OLYMPIA, Washington -- Highlighting the 23rd annual summer conference of the Washington Association of School Administrators (WASA) and the Association of Washington School Principals (AWSP) at the Spokane Convention Center will be:
  • Dr. Anthony Carnevale – futurist and vice-president of Educational Testing Service,
  • Washington State Governor Gary Locke,
  • Washington State Superintendent of Public Instruction Dr. Terry Bergeson, and
  • Dr. Charles Petty – counselor, professor and family humorist.

The conference theme, “Meeting the Challenges: Leadership – Family – Self” sets the stage for a forum that will enrich, rejuvenate and educate administrators from across the state. This year’s conference offers more than 50 concurrent sessions, seven pre-conference workshops, and stellar keynote presentations.

About 900 participants including school district and building administrators, exhibitors, presenters, and guest legislators from across the state are drawn to this jointly sponsored annual conference.  The program is designed by a committee of school administrators, diverse in both region and professional roles, and is aimed at providing opportunities for:

  • learning new ideas in education leadership,
  • sharing effective practices, and
  • networking to improve the effectiveness of shared leadership as districts and schools continue to work together to close the achievement gap.

Several annual awards recognizing individuals and organizations across the state for their outstanding contributions to public education will be presented at association lunches on Monday. A special session on Tuesday will feature a focus group opportunity for administrators to share with legislators what is being done in schools to prepare students for the new graduation requirements in 2008 and how the information is being communicated to parents.

For more information about the conference, contact the WASA office in Olympia, (360) 943-5717 or visit www.wasa-oly.org.
