Recognizing
outstanding Washington State public school administrators who
are actualizing the implementation of the nine characteristics
of highly performing schools/districts as identified by OSPI
research.

The PEMCO Foundation and
the Washington Association of School Administrators announce the Robert
J. Handy Most Effective Administrator Awards.
One highly effective
superintendent, central office administrator or building administrator
will be selected from a small district (up to 500 students), a
medium-sized district (501-2000) and a large district (over
2,000).

Info:
A ten-thousand dollar award
will be equally divided among the three winners. The award may be used
for personal, professional growth and/or to support and disseminate
information about a successful school or district program.
Eligibility
Criteria:
Any member of the Washington
Association of School Administrators (WASA) or the Association of
Washington School Principals (AWSP) who is a superintendent, central
office administrator or building administrator with at least three
years of administrative experience.
Online and print
applications may be submitted during the submission process.
The application process
for these awards begins in late winter.
Winners are announced at
the annual WASA Small Schools Workshop (small and medium district-size
categories) and the WASA Superintendent Workshop (large district
category). Sponsored by the PEMCO Foundation; coordinated by the
Washington Association of School Administrators.

This program was
named after Robert J. Handy, founder of PEMCO Life Insurance Company.
Handy was a Seattle school teacher during the Great Depression whose
vision of providing low-cost loans to schoolteachers grew into what is
now the School Employees Credit Union of Washington.
