OSPI/WASA Special Education Workshop            

August 3-4: Workshop
August 5: Early Childhood Day

Sponsored by the Office of the Superintendent of Public Instruction and
coordinated by WASA, the 12th annual OSPI/WASA Special Education
Workshop offers invited outstanding keynote speakers and a wide
range of valuable breakout sessions. Features include updates on IDEIA,
safety net, monitoring, curriculum and instruction and many more
topics of interest to new and veteran administrators. Presentations
will cover the federal, state and local perspectives. Time for networking
and sharing of ideas will make this institute a valuable opportunity for
all attendees.

Workshop strands include: Instructional/Classroom Best Practices,
New Directors/Coordinators Support, Management Strategies, Legal,
and Financial Guidelines.

Early Childhood Day:
The optional Early Childhood Day (August 5) has been added again
in response to districts' questions as to the implementation of
RCW 28A.155.065, the mandate that all districts serve birth-to-three
children by the 2009-10 school year. The day will focus on districts'
responsibilities concerning Child Find, delivery of services, fiscal
responsibility, transition, and monitoring by Part C. Districts are
encouraged to invite early intervention staff or community birth-
to-three providers. Time for participants to share ideas and
strategies and networking will be provided. The session will begin
at 8:30am and end at 3:30pm. A continental breakfast will be
available at 8:00am.
