Combining ARRA Title 1 and Special Education Efforts

The Why, What, Who, Where, and How of Early Learning and Public Schools
Mary Seaton, Director of Early Learning, OSPI

Research has shown that between birth and age eight children develop 80% of the brain structure upon which all their future learning will be built. Why should schools get serious about early learning? What does research say about how early learning connections and curriculum alignment can enhance and sustain gains made PreK–3rd grade? Whose is there to help schools with planning and implementation? Learn how districts large and small can extend and improve early learning opportunities for young children.

Race to the Top

In this session, the components of the ARRA Race to the Top grant application will be reviewed and discussed. Since the Governor and the planning committee have decided to complete a Round 1 application (December 2009), timelines are short. An update on the progress of the RTTT planning will be provided, as will a brief description of plans for a Round 2 try, assuming that success is not achieved in Round 1. Finally, a summary of the ARRA Investing in Innovation Grants and Teacher Incentive Funds, both available to districts, will be shared.
