School Administrators Statewide Elect Joel Aune, Superintendent of the Snoqualmie Valley School District, to Association Presidency in 2011

The Washington Association of School Administrators is pleased to announce election results.

OLYMPIA, Washington (July 29, 2010)--The Washington Association of School Administrators (WASA) is pleased to announce that members have elected Mr. G. Joel Aune, superintendent of the Snoqualmie Valley School District, as president-elect for 2010-11. Mr. Aune will assume the presidency in July 2011, following the term of the current president, Ms. Saundra Hill, superintendent of the Pasco School District.

As a member of WASA since 1998, Mr. Aune has actively participated on the WASA Board of Directors (2004-06 and 2007-09), as president of WASA Metro Region (2008-09), WASA Membership Committee chair (2006-07 and 2007-08), WASA Management Review Team member (2003), NEWASA Region president (2002-03), and NEWASA Region Superintendent's Component chair (2001-02). Upon learning of his selection, Mr. Aune stated,

"I am deeply honored to have been elected to this position because of the appreciation I have for WASA and the immense respect I have for the membership. I believe WASA must continue to play a key role in supporting those who lead our schools. Now, more than ever, we must work to maintain and further expand WASA's role as a credible, persistent, and respected advocate for public education in the state of Washington."

As president, Mr. Aune's goals will be to:

  • Serve and support all WASA members in a highly personalized fashion.
  • Aggressively advocate for public education and the funding to support the continued improvement of our schools.
  • Develop and deliver professional development that is aligned with member needs and bolsters leadership capacity.
  • Strengthen the WASA Corporate Partners Program.
  • Increase membership to strengthen and expand WASA.

Mr. Aune started his career as a teacher and then assistant principal in the Cashmere School District in 1983. His career then took him to Walla Walla, where he became an elementary school principal. He went on to serve as superintendent in both Colfax and now Snoqualmie Valley, where he has been working since 2005.
